Choliani-Rkoni is a premier hiking route for enthusiasts of forested landscapes.
The journey commences in Choliani Village of Tsalka Municipality. As you ascend rapidly on the Trialeti Range, you'll be treated to panoramic vistas of the northern side of the range. This densely wooded terrain presents a stark contrast to the steppe and treeless landscapes of the southern side.
Nestled at the convergence of three Georgian provinces, the ruins of the mighty medieval fortress of Kldekari await atop the range. From this vantage point, you'll be captivated by breathtaking views stretching across Trialeti (Tsakla Municipality), Kvemo Kartli (including the Algeti National Park), and Shida Kartli.
Descending from Kldekari Fortress, the path leads into the tranquil valley of the Sabolia River. Here, amidst the valley, stands a quaint old church, peculiarly isolated from its surroundings, adorned with colossal megaliths embedded in its walls.
Continuing through Sabolia Valley, enveloped by lush forest, we spend the night amidst this serene setting.
The following day, we trace the stream to its confluence with the Tedzami River. Continuing along the Tedzami, we soon encounter the ancient arched bridge of Rkoni. Beyond the bridge lies Ikvi Monastery, followed by the village of Rkoni, marking the conclusion of our journey.
